Superman' Director Down To Five Names

Superman is getting ready to take flight under Christopher Nolan's supervision, but he has made it clear that he won't be directing the forthcoming superhero film, tentatively titled "The Man of Steel." Instead, the man responsible for "The Dark Knight" is seeking other talented filmmakers to bring Superman back to the big screen - and according to one source, he has his eye on a few specific directors.

Deadline reports that "major announcements involving DC characters [are] coming in four weeks," including one particularly important decision regarding the director of the "Superman" franchise's next live-action entry. According to the report, the short list of directors includes Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, Duncan Jones and Zack Snyder. Guillermo del Toro was once a candidate for the job, though he's no longer considered likely for the role.

Nolan has reportedly already started taking meetings with prospective "Superman" candidates, and is said to be submitting his personal choice to Warner Bros. within the next few weeks.

On paper, some of these candidates seem more likely than others. Certain directors are already committed to future projects, such as Liebesman, who is signed on for Warner's "Clash of the Titans" sequel. Snyder is a regular presence on the WB lot while both Matt Reeves and Duncan Jones are considered up and coming filmmakers thanks to "Cloverfield" and "Moon," respectively. Their latest films, "Let Me In" and "Source Code," could make big enough splashes to warrant their hiring as the next "Superman" director.

But at this point, it remains too early to say who will ultimately wind up behind the lens for the "Superman" reboot. Keep it locked to Splash Page in the coming weeks and months for more news as it develops.
